Here we go again Pattaya Soi 6 Lockdown! Lockdown 2.0, shutdown or whatever you want call it. Just do as you are told and comply, donโ€™t try and live any other way. There is a current trend going around that we should get used to this thing called, โ€˜New Normalโ€™. We hate this term and no normal human being should ever accept it.

We are now in the second Shutdown of Pattaya. The first official Lockdown of Pattaya was on March 18th, 2020 to help combat the global Covid 19 pandemic and it extended well beyond 2 months before any easing of restrictions. When June rolled in the road checkpoints started to come down and the city entered phase three of Guideline Reductions. Malls and restaurants were slowly reopening with mandatory measures; as the city permitted a later start to the curfew. It seemed like Pattaya was coming back but slowly and cautiously.

Lockdown, Open Up, Lockdown Again... Repeat

Chon Buri is now in the second shutdown of Pattaya. The first official Pattaya Soi 6 Lockdown was on March 18th, 2020, to help combat the global Covid 19 pandemic and it extended well beyond 2 months before any easing of restrictions. When June rolled in the road checkpoints started to come down and the city entered phase three of Guideline Reductions. The city permitted a later start to the curfew as Malls and restaurants were reopening with mandatory measures. It and it seemed like Pattaya was coming back but slowly and cautiously.

The complete Lock-down of Pattaya started on April 9th, 2020 to help combat the global Covid 19 pandemic. It extended well into 2 months before any easing of restrictions. When June rolled in the road checkpoints started to come down and the city entered the 3rd phase of Guideline Reductions.

One month prior the month of May, ๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ด was again, given permission to ride along with the Club of Community Police Volunteer Services of Pattaya during the Lockdown Curfew Patrol. With their assistance and supervision we were able to capture images of Pattayaโ€™s notorious Soi 6.

Pattaya City Has Become a Ghost Town

To say it was quiet would be an understatement. The soi was dark and hollow like a dark canyon with nothing but moonlight to guide you from above. There were sounds of sporadic shouting, not many stray cats or dogs except for the odd cats wandering about who were fairly chill, surprisingly not many dogs like Walking Street. Every now and then a lone scooter would pass through but it was such a sight to see that no one would believe you if you tried to tell them.

A number of the Soi 6 Bars like others throughout Pattaya are now resorting to Live Streams to help pay / support staff and hopefully some funds left to cover a portion of overhead costs. Rumor is with the Live Streams is PayPal is locking bars out of their accounts. Facebook and YouTube are taking action to suppress or even shutdown accounts making life harder to earn a paycheck.ย

It certainly doesn’t feel like many options are left for the bars that are just clinging to the side of the cliff now without a life line.

Pattaya Soi 6 Lockdown is Killing Businesses

I donโ€™t think there is anyone who knows about this Soi would want to see the 6 like this. As all the bars were dark and silenced the place became a ghost town. The question everyone is asking is when or will the party come back? Even when and if it does who will be left standing? Times are a changing or have times changed for good?

The month of July saw some of the bars on the 6 reopen but social distancing restrictions were strictly enforced by law. Not everyone is rushing to open. Some are measuring the response and others are not even bothering. They are instead preferring to wait for International flights to resume. We can bet that there are many tourists following Pattaya news, blogs and vlogs looking for signs of life. I think everyone is missing that infamous stroll down the 6 to hear the loud music, people shouting and partying, seeing all that hustle and bustle, where you know and feel youโ€™re in Pattaya… where there is no other place in the world like it.

Do you think Pattaya will every return to its former self?

We at ๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ด and Digital Mints believe Pattaya will return and better than ever.
