A Pattaya city lockdown is something that is hard to imagine. This place is known as the machine that never shuts down. A tourist city with no ‘Off’ switch. This city has been through the worst of times and has consistently prevailed.
Throughout the decades Pattaya’s resilience and ability to overcome and recover surprised many, even the most bitter hardened barstool haters… that was until Covid 19.
The virus from Wuhuan and mainly parts unknown was discovered mid December of 2019 it took on everyone and anything in its path and crushed them. Pattaya didn’t stand a chance. Covid would rein undisputedly and the world as we know it has not been the same. We’ve been inundated with the fear, the stats, the conspiracies, the rules, guidelines, stay at home orders, the deaths, nothing is off limits and it’s becoming too much at times.
In the above video on 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟱𝘁𝗵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬… 🅴🅲🅴 was granted a full acesss ride-along with the Pattaya Volunteer Police Services to document the Lockdown in Pattaya City due to COVID-19 Pandemic. This breif micro-vlog of vignettes was made to show what the volunteers do to assist the city and protect its residents on its nightly patrols after the 10:00pm curfew. What stands out the most in this video are the deserted and empty streets that are usually alive and bustling with people from all walks of life.
On April 9th 2020, Pattaya was shut down and the Lockdown order imposed. Since then Pattaya has gotten to its feet, but with restrictions easing it had a slight stumble and a head shake to clear the cobwebs. Pattaya is trying to dust itself off.
Where the city goes from here no one can say but we noticed something unexpected happened during the Lockdown. It’s become a community of support earning a reputation of #PattayaStrong. The people of Pattaya and Thailand are doing their absolute best to fight this virus together; it has not been easy.
Thailand will get through this and there’s no reason why it can’t. It’s a matter of time and hopefully not borrowed. They can show themselves as one of if not the top holiday destinations in the world for tourists to visit once restrictions are fully lifted.
The effects of the global Lock-down to combat the Covid 19 pandemic have had an impact on not just Pattaya but the entire world. Times are tuff these LockDown photos can serve as a reminder of what we could lose, so we should learn from it.
🅴🅲🅴 was permitted to ride along with the Club of Community Police Volunteer Services of Pattaya during the Lockdown Curfew Patrol. With their assistance and supervision we were able to capture images of Pattaya’s world famous Walking Street and the surrounding area.
Walking Street has never been this quiet for so long. The extreme city’s entertainment machine has stopped, the strip has been silenced, darkness and sorrow fills the air and shadows at night. There is no one on the street only local stray cats and dogs who meander about. Can you imagine what those cats and dogs are thinking, ‘where has everyone gone, where’s all the commotion, the music, the food? Are we the only party animals left’? BTW, where is the party?
No doubt this situation is something Pattaya has never experienced. When it’s over, will it be looked at as a time to regroup and re-strategize or as some people have stated a ‘reset’ button? When the dust settles and the chips have landed the hardest fight for Pattaya will have begun.
We would like to give a ‘big thank you’ to the Pattaya City Police Volunteer Service for taking us around the city after curfew and giving us an all access/ after hours pass to document the effects of the first major Lockdown of Pattaya City.
